Habitat

by Craig Couzens

Habitat is Craig Couzens's fourth solo exhibition. The dictionary defines ‘habitat’ as simply being the ‘location of animals and plants’.

From ancestral times we continue to select and ‘habitat’ that must provide us with sufficient food and shelter; that is - the best we can afford.

Since the devastating fires and the COVID-19 we appreciate that we only have a tenuous grip on our Earth.

Craig’s mildly surreal representations are about the land and the forms of shelter we use; from tent-like structures to various constructs such as multi-story buildings. Unfortunately, as we grow, our demand for housing usually encroaches onto the flatest areas - usually at the expense of viable agricultural land.

We need to walk softly on our earth!
