My Secret Garden by Elizabeth Doherty
My Secret Garden is an exhibition exploring the hidden beauty of our native flora and fauna. Focusing on connection, the series creates a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the animals depicted.
‘This garden is not confined by fences, walls, nor the boundaries of maps.
It weaves together the oceans, forests and hills.
This garden is not mere flowers it is life, growing, yearning and flowing.
It weaves together the people, animals, and plants.’
One of the main aims of my exhibition is to encourage others to focus on the beauty of a moment shared, to focus on the myriad of life all around us. Not just observing; but connecting to Country. And as we become more imbedded in the environment around us, we work harder to conserve it.
Elizabeth Doherty is an emerging artist within the Riverina. As a proud Wiradjuri woman, Elizabeth combines traditional dot painting techniques with contemporary styles to celebrate her heritage and personal journey. Elizabeth’s works focus on her connection to Country, native flora, and fauna. So, together let us share in Elizabeth’s transient secret moments between herself and nature.
