Emotional Rescue by Kerrie Rudd

Creating is my lifeline. I create in the hope to find answers to unknown questions. Whilst my objective is unclear, I continue to create. Endlessly. My reality lies in this questionable space of the unknown.

I was a child growing up in the 70’s and 80’s in Wagga Wagga. Childhood had its share of turmoil and confusion. I found escapism in built ephemeral worlds of found objects, stacked and constructed. My perfect world. A place of refuge. A place of safety.

Emotional Rescue is a body of work created entirely in isolation. Isolation forced me to sit with myself. To sit and feel and think and poke and prod at my own ‘stuff’. Questions were raised and a natural reaction was to expose my vulnerabilities with a visual response. A response, which at times, was unsettling, Unsettling emotionally, and unsettling visually.

A personal collection of salvaged frames was necessary to provide a visual anchor - an emotional rescue offered in a safe space of familiarity.

A new knowledge and realization of beauty and truth can be found in decay and destruction. When one is constrained, future unknown realities, present uncertainties, and past traumas are brazenly empowered to raise their ugly heads.
