Fathom
A Photographic Exhibition
Robert Rathbone
Water is an energetic body, never still. Water moves, distorts, reflects, and reshapes itself endlessly, just like our thoughts. Fathom is an exploration of these shifting depths, both literal and metaphorical. Each image in this collection captures the changing surface of water where ripples become whispers of memory, reflections distort reality, and shapes emerge only to dissolve again.
As a photographer I have always been fascinated by the way water transforms the familiar into something abstract, elusive, and deeply personal. A pond, a river, lake or ocean, each offers a fleeting canvas where light and movement create a new vision with each passing moment.
In these images, I invite you to pause, to look beyond the surface, and to fathom not just the water, but your own perceptions.
What do you see? A pattern, a feeling, a memory? Meaning is fluid, shaped by our own experiences, just like water itself. This exhibition is not about definitive answers but about embracing uncertainty, allowing yourself to drift into contemplation.
Take a moment. Let your eyes wander. Let your mind follow. And perhaps, in the ebb and flow of these images, you will find reflections of your own depths.
